Flextailpump Tiny Pump Review

For last several years I’ve been using an inflatable air mattress for camping (I like my Exped Ultra 3), which is more comfortable than the self-inflating Therm-a-rests that I’ve used in the past. Since I started using it, I’ve used several methods of inflation, including pump sacks and the Exped Mini Pump. I’ve had the Flextailpump (yes, they smash everything together into one word) for awhile, and I used it again last weekend. Without further ado, here’s my Tiny Pump review.

Is it the tiny camping mattress pump that could?

The Flextailpump Tiny Pump is a lightweight, rechargeable electric pump designed to inflate camping mattresses. It comes with a bunch of different size nozzles to fit all the different inflator values and can also deflate. It weighs 3.1 ounces with the adapter that fits the Exped mattresses. The Tiny Pump charges via a USB-C port.

You can buy it on Amazon.

Does the Tiny Pump inflate your camping mattress?

Yes, it does. For my Exped Ultra 3 (I’m a side sleeper and love this camping mattress), it takes only 38 seconds to fully inflate the mattress.

39 Inflations!!!! For two people, enough for a 19-day trip. For a three-person family, it’s enough for a two-week trip. That’s about the longest we do as a family.

How many mattress pumps will you get?

Flextailgear Tiny Pump attached to an Exped mattress with an included adapter.

I wanted to see how many times it would inflate my camping mat, so I ran it over and over. I pumped up the mat and deflated the mat. Pumped and deflated. Over and over.

I gave up at 17 inflations.

Then I ran it continuously to see how many minutes it would take before running out of battery juice. After 14 minutes, it stopped outputting enough to quickly fill up the mattress. It ran out of batteries after 15 minutes and 54 seconds, and that’s on top of the prior 17 inflations. Including those prior inflations, I got about 26 minutes and 40 seconds of runtime out of it. About 24 minutes were at enough force to inflate the mattress in 38 seconds.

FlexTailPump claims a 1300mAh lithium battery, and they claim 15 minutes of runtime. Maybe I got lucky? Or maybe the one I got is older with a bigger battery? I don’t know for sure. If you get one, it’s best to test it ahead of time. If you carry a Nitecore Power Bank (just 6.2 ounces with the bag and USB-C cable and USB micro adapter), you’ll be able to charge this many times if needed.

Final FlexTailPump Tiny Pump Review

All in all, it’s the least annoying way to pump up a camping air mattress. I’ve tried a bunch of different ways and other than the sounds of an air sucking and pumping motor, it works great. I’ll be hauling this along on my trips instead of the other options I have.

If you read my Exped Mini Pump Review, you’ll find out the entire reason I’ve been trying other methods is because the stuff sack that Exped makes is just a little too big for my needs. I’m debating on DIYing a pump attachment onto one of my stuff sacks. That way, I’d have the right size stuff sack for my needs and a lighter solution for pumping up my camping mattress.

You can buy the Tiny Pump on Amazon.
